The Family Violence Division
Dallas County
District Attorney’s Office
Family Violence Training Program
The program is funded by VAWA and administered by the
Family Violence Division at the Dallas County District Attorney’s
Office. Former Chief of the Family Violence Division, Cindy
Dyer and Steve Storie, former Felony Investigator, are highly solicited
trainers who started this statewide training program more than five
years ago. The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office,
Family Violence Division has provided free family violence training
to over 25,000 individuals in the State of Texas since 1999.
Why Family Violence Training?
There is an ongoing need to train law enforcement officers in order
to meet TCLEOSE requirements. Working with victims of family
violence requires specialized knowledge about the dynamics and pattern
of abuse to overcome barriers to effective investigation and prosecution:
what to do when victims are hostile towards the police, why they
may not leave the abuser, and how to determine the predominant aggressor.
How can proper evidence collection and documentation help prosecution? How
can we reduce the risk of liability?
What Does Our Program Provide?
We organize speakers and cover their travel arrangements as well
as assist with curriculum development if needed. Among our
division members are highly specialized, dynamic prosecutors, investigators,
law enforcement, and advocates who are committed to improving the
safety for victims and holding perpetrators of abuse accountable. Our
seminars also commonly draw on experts from throughout the Dallas
area. Yet, we encourage every host agency to invite a local
expert to speak on this topic. We understand that every community
faces unique challenges and we therefore tailor the curriculum to
the needs of your community. Enclosed please find an outline
of presentation topics our speakers specialize in.
What Costs are Involved For You?
We offer this training FREE of charge, except for
an overnight accommodation for the speaker(s), if necessary. Your
agency is responsible for getting TCLEOSE credit (or other CEUs)
and handling training logistics such as program announcements and
registration with any assistance we can provide.
How to Find Out More?
We would like to share our expertise with you and assist you in finding
ways to improve your local response as it best works for your community. If
you would like more information or would like to schedule a training
